Merry Christmas from Buena Vista Street

This June, Disney's California Adventure's former Sunshine Plaza opened its  newly themed land - Buena Vista Street -  Though named for the real-life Burbank thoroughfare that the Walt Disney Studios sits on, the central plaza represents Los Angeles in the 1920s, when Walt Disney first arrived there. I just have fallen in love with the Art Deco/Mission style atmosphere and even more so when the winter holidays have sprinkled their magic.

You feel transported to another time as you should, after all this is Disney. The Walt Disney Company has really pulled out the magic..

I finally saw and heard The Buena Vista Street Community Bell Ringers, Santa Claus in the Elias & Co Jewelry department got an earful from me and I could not stop wanting to sing and dance around to the  beautifully decorated tree near Carthay Circle Theater. (The Nutcracker ballet still in my bones)

I kept hearing  "You'll shoot your eye out!" in my head as I waited to see Santa. I feel I should tell Santa that I want a Red Ryder carbine-action, two hundred shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock. I felt so out of place with my wardrobe. Everything is so polished and on que, the elves are  sweet, helpful  and what is even better - they give you a Candy Cane treat!  I am ready to shop now with the Holiday Spirit in the air - Thank goodness I can  have my purchases waiting for me at the entrance because I did some damage to the wallet. Now I must figure out where to hide the goodies from the family!

Just wait and see what Sarge's Surplus has to offer when I report form Cars Land - Route 66 here I come!

DGTG Coverage of Disney Junior's Sofia the First Premiere Event

Disney Go To Girl was recently offered an invitation to attend Disney Junior's private screening event at Walt Disney Studios for our newest princess, Sofia!  Agent P, our Socal correspondent was there to capture every moment for my readers! Enjoy!

Ready for a new Disney princess?

Sofia the First is a pint-sized princess who will change your idea of how Disney presents their heroines. Sofia is a more realistic role model that all young girls can relate to.

She is shown experiencing the same social issues as your young lady or gent does -- learning how to fit in, making new friends, learning new skills and working on sibling relationships from diverse backgrounds.

A bumbling wizard, jealous step-sibling, animals that understand  her and a Royal Steward who "makes it work", seem to help provide a breakthrough character who's kindness, generosity, honesty, grace and love shine through.

Finally a Princess who does not deal with love and heartache of a prince! With the help of the three familiar fairies in charge of the Royal Training Academy — Flora, Fauna and Merryweather of Disney’s classic “Sleeping Beauty”, on occasion, classic Disney Princess characters including Cinderella, Aurora, Snow White and Ariel — Sofia learns that looking like a princess isn’t all that hard but behaving like one must come from the heart.

Sofia the First is aimed at children aged  2 - 7 years of age. I had the opportunity to take my 3 year old the premiere on the Disney Studio lot and was sooo nervous about her attention span. Sofia the First does not wait to get into the meat of the story, my daughter was intrigued right from the start. Not only did she pretty much sit through the movie, she grabbed a wonderful young lady's hand each time music played and swayed to the beat. I was completely shocked that my little girl approached a total stranger and let her innocence and happiness shine through (teary eyed here)

Modern Family's Ariel Winter is joined by Sara Ramirez of Grey's Anatomy as her mom Queen Miranda, Wayne Brady is wise-talking Clover the Rabbit, Jennifer Hale as Cinderella and Tim Gunn as Baileywick the Royal Steward. It premieres at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, on Disney Channel and at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, on sister channel Disney Junior and her own series spring 2013 on Disney and Disney Junior channels worldwide.

Can't wait to follow her magical journey? - click here and download some Sofia the First invitations and other printables from Disney.com.

On a side note - I have had many run ins with Wayne Brady here in Burbank and on Southwest Airlines - but nothing is as memorable as him freaking me out when I thought he adopted the Maltese pup I was looking at getting. He adopted my little dog's sister 12 years ago. Still connected Wayne - still connected!

DGTG VIP Coverage of the Disney Baby Store Grand Opening

Disney Consumer Products opened its first Disney Baby Store in Glendale at The Americana at Brand and launched a baby boutique online. Our Disneyland correspondent "Agent P" was there to report on the soft opening and what you can expect on your visit. The Disney Baby Store had a grand opening on Sept. 8 and specializes in infant products for playtime, bathtime, on-the-go, getting ready, mealtime, dressing and the nursery.

Whether you are expecting your first or third child, Disney Baby is there to help you through every stage.
Disney has partnered up with brand names that you know and trust. You know Disney would not just put their name out there on anything that they do not believe in. From Graco's Snugfit 30, Safety 1st and The First years higher end car seat/strollers - you will not be disappointed.

The Disney Baby Store has just doubled the joy and cute factor of shopping for the your bundle of joy. I had the opportunity to use their organic cotton onesies on my daughter last year when they debuted at D23. The soft cotton seem to keep her cooler and comfortable. The double row of snaps helped insure that she had a little more time to enjoy the current size she was in.

On the Disney Baby website you can find plenty of advice and great tips - just enough to keep you on your toes and information you never thought of or needed reminding for. It really is an informational site that is in no way biased on the information they want you to have. Yes it is a DISNEY site but they want you to have as much information at this special time. We think that is GREAT!
Just more magical memories to celebrate with each and every milestone for you and your child's life.

Disney will have a few dedicated specialty stores, but you will see little Disney Baby shops inside the Disney Stores over the next few months. The stores will have Bath Time, Feeding Time, Playtime, On the Go, Dressing Baby (which features all organic cotton) and In the Nursery.

The many choices of characters and the beautiful color palates will often leave you asking yourself - Which one will I go with? But with the affordable pricing you may just change with the season. (snicker snicker). I will look forward to possibly seeing a baby registry in the near future.

At the soft opening of the Disney Baby Store, Operation Shower was there to help celebrate and honor the families who hold it together while their spouses are deployed. Expectant families were there to share a unique experience of having an amazing baby shower given in cooperation with The Walt Disney Company. These families were not only surprised with a baby shower but also a $250.00 shopping spree in the new Disney Baby Flagship store. Kenny Loggins and the Blue Sky Riders performed "House at Pooh Corner" which was fitting as we got to see Winne the Pooh, Piglet and Eyeore help Allison Sweeny cut the ribbon for the grand opening of the store. So not to intrude on the special moments of these moms shopping for their bundles, I decided to walk the product lines and play with the Disney Baby website. As always, Disney partnered with trusted brands such as Graco and Safety First. You will soon see these in stores and you can order today most items from the Disney Store website..

**Thanks so much to Agent P for covering this fabulous event!  She rocked it!

Rev Up and KaChow-Down with a Cars Land Inspired Recipe: Ugly Pie

Ka-Chow Folks!  With the upcoming and highly anticipated opening of Cars Land drawing near, it's been hard to think about anything else!  I was recently blessed with the amazing opportunity to take a sneak peek at Cars Land…from within.  Radiator Springs is breathtaking, to say the very least…and I had HIGH expectations which were definitely exceeded!  Even if you've seen the media photos or renderings, or by some chance have peeked over the walls to see for yourself, you better believe that you WON'T believe your eyes when you first spy the red rocks of ornament valley.  Cars Land brings Radiator Springs to life and upon arrival, you'll be transported to that place Cars fans know and love so much!

Downtown Radiator Springs (Photo: Disneyland Media)
During the special sneak preview, I had the opportunity to sample many of the food offerings which will be available in Cars Land, and I must say I was extremely impressed!  You all know how much I love dining at Disney and getting that little "taste" at Flos V-8 cafe, made the excitement grow so much more!

(Photo: Disney Go To Girl)

I don't wanna ruin all the surprises for those of you who plan to visit Cars Land after it opens on June 15th, but as usual, I wanted to share a recipe with you that is sure to get your motor running!  Flo's will offer "Ugly Crust" Pies in several different flavors which were inspired by the yummy, but misshapen pies made famous by MidPoint Cafe, located on Route 66 in Adrian, Texas.  As someone who has visited Midpoint AND Flo's I have to say that both establishments come neck to neck when it comes to the tastiness of their "Ugly Pies."

Flo's V-8 Cafe Strawberry Rhubarb Pie
(Photo: Disneyland Media)

So Warm Up The Engines and Get in Gear to enjoy a Strawberry Rhubarb Pie right at home…Remember…the uglier the better…make Flo proud!

UGLY CRUST:

2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup shortening (or butter)
1/2 tsp sea salt
6-8 Tbsp Icy Cold Water

UGLY Strawberry Rhubarb Filling:

4 1/2 cups Thinly sliced Rhubarb (Be sure to peel off stringy skins and trim the ends)
2 1/2 cups hulled and sliced strawberries
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 Tbsp. Quick Cooking Tapioca
2 Tsp. grated orange zest

In a Medium-sized bowl, combine All filling ingredients and mix well.  Set aside.
Combine flour and salt in large bowl; cut in butter with pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in enough water with fork just until flour is moistened.

Divide dough in half; shape each half into ball. Flatten slightly. Wrap 1 ball in plastic food wrap; refrigerate.

For 1-crust pie, roll out 1 ball of dough on lightly floured surface into 12-inch circle. Fold into quarters. Flatten to the best of your ability and THROW it a greased 9" pie plate.  Just make sure it completely covers the plate…then press the dough down around the edges of the plate.  REmember..the goal here is UGLY!

NOW, Add the Pie filling one scoop at a time!

For 2-crust pie (which I always make), roll out remaining ball of dough on lightly floured surface and place over the top…you can get creative here, by cutting out lattice strips, or leaving the entire crust in tact.  just be sure to add a couple of slits for the steam to billow!

My version!  Topped with homemade Whipped Cream.

Bake at 375 degrees for 35-45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly!  Now…yell Ka-CHOW and dig in!

The event marks the second anniversary of "Let’s Move!," the First Lady's initiative to fight childhood obesity, and Disney Magic of Healthy Living, a Company-wide initiative designed to inspire kids and families to lead healthier and active lifestyles.

THE SECRET WORLD OF ARRIETTY opens in theaters this Friday, February 17th

The trailers and commercials for The Secret World of Arrietty have definitely won me over and I must say I am very excited to see this film!  What do you think?  Do you have plans to see this film?

Cast Members: Amy Poehler, Bridgit Mendler and Carol Burnett in Los Angeles to promote the film.

Residing quietly beneath the floorboards are little people who live undetected in a secret world to be discovered, where the smallest may stand tallest of all.  From the legendary Studio Ghibli (“Spirited Away,” “Ponyo”) comes “The Secret World of Arrietty,” an animated adventure based on Mary Norton’s acclaimed children’s book series “The Borrowers.”

Arrietty (voice of Bridgit Mendler), a tiny, but tenacious 14-year-old, lives with her parents (voices of Will Arnett and Amy Poehler) in the recesses of a suburban garden home, unbeknownst to the homeowner and her housekeeper (voice of Carol Burnett). Like all little people, Arrietty (AIR-ee-ett-ee) remains hidden from view, except during occasional covert ventures beyond the floorboards to “borrow” scrap supplies like sugar cubes from her human hosts. But when 12-year-old Shawn (voice of David Henrie), a human boy who comes to stay in the home, discovers his mysterious housemate one evening, a secret friendship blossoms. If discovered, their relationship could drive Arrietty’s family from the home and straight into danger. The English language version of “The Secret World of Arrietty” was executive produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, and directed by Gary Rydstrom. The film hits theaters Feb. 17, 2012.
