Coffee Snobs' guide to WDW Series- Part 1: The Writer's Stop

This will be the first post in my new series, Coffee Snob's Guide to WDW!  I own a cafe in North Carolina, and if I do say so myself, we have darn good coffee... be it the Organic Fair Trade drip coffee we import from Northern California, our complex and intense French Presses, our rich and bold 100% Kona, or our delightfully smooth and delicious Espresso Drinks (my fave).

My restaurant in NC.
Being in the restaurant business definitely has it's vices attached... That being said, I will confess that I am a coffee addict, and "just any old coffee" doesn't do the trick.  Since I'm already in confession mode, I'll go ahead and admit it... "I AM A COFFEE SNOB."  There it is... I said it.

For the most part, the stuff you find around the parks just doesn't do it for me.. Not at all.  There is one particular brand that prevails areound the parks, and I'll refer to that brand in this post as That Brand.  In fact, I can't stand it...not even a little bit.  I don't care how desperate I am for a caffeine fix, I just can't tolerate "That Brand".  Many counters and kiosks around Disney property proudly advertise "Espresso, Cappuccino, and Lattes" and I get all excited, only to have my taste buds filled with the unmistakable flavor of...you guessed it, That Brand.

I'm embarrassed to admit this, because my profiles on just about every online media site clearly states that, "I am a lover of ALL things Disney."  Even though I've made these bold confessions to you today, I don't think it would be wise to change the description to reflect my aversion to the lovely That Brand!

Because of my love-affair with the "good beans" I have made it my mission in life to track down and report about any "REAL DEAL" coffee on Disney Property.  So far, I have been extremely impressed with my findings, and this says a lot coming from me...Not to sound petty, but I just LOVE good coffee...I thrive on it...and I.MUST.HAVE.IT.DAILY... even if just once a day!

Coffee Snobs Guide to WDW Series- Part 1: The Writer's Stop

The Writer's Stop is a small, quaint, and almost hidden Book and Coffee Shop located at Disney's Hollywood Studios Park.  The style and decor is reminiscent of your neighborhood Starbucks with Bookshelves lining the walls and over sized cushy chairs and bistro tables scattered around.  The atmosphere is quiet, relaxed, and laid back.

I peeked over the counter to confirm what I was hoping for... A Real Espresso Machine complete with a real bean grinder...freshly ground espresso and gourmet Monin syrups ( I only like to taste coffee, so I don't use these syrups... but they're a nice brand for those who opt for the, Vanilla Latte, for example)

I ordered "My Usual": A Latte with a Double Shot and 1/4" foam on top and 2 Raw Sugars... (more froth than a usual latte, but not quite as much as a cappuccino), and was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it!!! It was yummy and satisfying...Exactly what I needed!

While sipping my lucsious Writer's Stop Latte, I couldn't help but notice all of the delicious-looking cookies and snacks in the pastry case.  One of my favorite (and the favorite of many) snacks at WDW is the Carrot Cake Cookie.  This cookie is just as good as it sounds, and usually sells out pretty quickly at The Writer's Stop.  On this day, I got there early enough and there were plenty in the case, and you guessed it...I couldn't turn it down... AND it's included on the DDP snack plan!!!  The Carrot Cake Cookie is, in my opinion, the best use of a snack credit... well maybe it's tied with the Dole Whip Float.

I could go on all day about the Carrot Cake Cookie, but this post is devoted to my beloved Coffee.  For more mouth-watering info on the Carrot Cake Cookie and a recipe to make them at home, visit this post.

I also want to add, that the CMs at The Writer's Stop are so friendly! On our last visit in January, 2011, they chose my daughter as "Customer of the Day" and gave her a Minnie-Mouse Light-Up Spinner Toy and a Special Certificate!

So in Review, Disney Go To Girl definitely approves Hollywood Studios' The Writer's Stop as a venue catering to "Disney Coffee Snobs" but is a "must-do" for everyone!

I was a Coffee Master for Starbucks back when it meant something. So Disney coffee and "that brand" is a horror show to me. Especially the "brewed" because they just add hot water to concentrate. Bleck! I wouldn't let my dog drink that. It's one of the biggest down points of the trip to me. I can however make do with "that brand's" espresso pods that are in the concierge lounge at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

My very favorite coffee on site is the pressed pot at Boma. It's a lovely African blend and really enjoyable. I've tried the Kona at the Poly and it's not my favorite as far as Kona's go.

For #DisneySMMoms I'm packing the via, and ordering a lot of hot water. ;D
